Hair ... One of the fastest ways to change your look (and your mood) is to try out a new hairstyle, or even just to wash or treat your hair!  While this is simply common sense, I still decided to visit one of South Africa’s newest up-and-coming salons, “Martinez”, and asked them what so many people have been asking me over the years:

Hair questions        -         Hair facts         -        Hair masters         -        Hair Trivia

Questions on hair next

1.       How often should hair be washed?

  • If hair is styled on a daily basis’ and styling product is used every day, hair should be washed at least every second day.  This is to prevent product build up.

  • If this is not the case hair can be washed two to three times per week.

  • By washing hair everyday you will stimulate hair oil glands which will then result in oily hair.

2.       What is the best way to self-care for hair?

  • Home Care:  Condition and treat your hair on a regular basis.

  • Use heat protection for heat styling.

  • In salon treatments and hair cuts

  • Ask your stylist for UV protection treatments.

3.       Is a hair make-over from time to time really necessary?

  • Hair make-over is important because it boosts a person’s confidence and your overall look.

  • It motivates you as a person to constantly be aware of your appearance.

7 facts on hair:  next

  • The lifespan of a human hair is 3 to 7 years on average.

  • Women’s hair is about half the diameter of men’s hair.  Hair diameter also varies on average between races, making hair plugs on some men look especially obvious.

  • Facial hair grows faster than any other hair on the body.  In fact, if the average man never shaved his beard it would grow to over 30 feet during his lifetime, longer than a killer whale.

  • The average person loses 60-100 strands of hair every day. Hair loss will varies in accordance with the season, pregnancy, illness, diet and age.

  • One human hair can support 3.5 ounces. That’s about the weight of two full size candy bars, and with hundreds of thousands of hair on the human head, makes the story of Rapunzel much more believable.

  • There are as many hairs per square inch on your body as on a chimpanzee.  We have lots of hair, but a majority of the hairs are too fine or too light to be seen.

  • Blondes may have “more fun”, and it may be because they have more hair.  It actually is the colour of hair that determines how dense the hair on your head is. Redheads have the least dense hair.

Facts research done on the internet and mostly found on “above top secret”.

Masters on hair:  next

Masters in the field of styling
